A CITY SLEEPS
amass the stones along the river, build a bridge, betray the anger, traffic flows like cars we follow, the perfect metropolis. a city sleeps in twilight, each motion a cry for daylight, we see, though now in ruins, the centre of all. // a city sleeps, the city rests, I’m forever in your debt. // the city’s heart splits, a new road to nowhere, fumes and fire fill the air, colours steer the grey and still, welcome home old friend. // a city sleeps, the city rests, I’m forever in your debt. // waiting, thinking, biding time, kicking ladders once they climb. // all, consuming.

God, it's a sin this band isn't huge. Quirky indie songs that are pretty uncharacterisable; a melange of psych-pop and post-punk that is even sometimes strangely reminiscent of the fun and quirky electro of Hot Chip. The songwriting is playful and profound in equal measure. Psychedelic, funky, brash, ethereal... I can only describe HMSM by what it's not: folk, jazz, death metal, rap or bad. And, to these ears, "bad" is the only thing these guys couldn't turn their hand to. John Behan
